Both are worth picking up, and High Definition is the better deal. The film that came closest was Invictus, but for Pick of the Week I'm going with The Messenger on DVD or Blu-ray. (The other four are for screeners that arrived late.) Additionally, there's not a single first-run release on this week's list that managed to be a hit both at the box office and with critics. In fact, there is only one Featured Review on this week's list that is for a DVD coming out this week.

Given its box office performance, this is a disappointing start.ĭVD and Blu-ray Releases for May 18th, 2010 Valentine's Day led the way with 498,000 units sold, generating $8.46 million in opening week sales.

However, none of them were particularly strong. There were a handful of new releases that reached the top 30 on this week's sales chart, including the new number one.
The spy next door update#
Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates.īecause sales figures are estimated based on sampling, they will be more accurate for higher-selling titles.ĭVD Sales: People Stay Home With Their Valentine In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by the Digital Entertainment Group. We refine our estimates from week to week as more data becomes available. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey. The market share is converted into a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published in Media Play News.įor example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking. She's Gillian, the woman next door raising three kids on her own, and in Bob she sees an honest, hardworking pen importer who will lead a quiet life alongside her. Given that the role of Bob Ho was clearly written for Chan, it's unclear why they've paired him with Amber Valletta- an honest-to-God supermodel- as a love interest. Saddled with an obvious script, hammy child actors and a litany of tired jokes, Chan seems somewhat defeated at the center of the whole thing, performing a stunt or two for the camera and giving the goofy reaction shot on cue, but looking as if he'd rather make Rush Hour 4. The infinitely likable Chan has been changing gears slowly with action comedies for a decade now, and while many were disasters- The Tuxedo, Around the World in 80 Days- I doubt any were as bad as the utterly inept The Spy Next Door.
